AN UNTAMED LINE
These pieces form a body of work for a recent solo exhibition at Chelmsford Museum entitled "An Untamed Line". I was interested in exploring accidental mark-making where ink meets water. There's a combination of intentionality and the uncontrollable in making the work. Whilst the drawing is clearly figurative the accidental marks start a process of abstraction.
"An Untamed Line" featured a collection of figurative drawings that explore experimental techniques with ink and water. By embracing unexpected and accidental marks, these pieces capture a blend of freedom and vulnerability. Through the delicate interplay of line and form, the work takes us on a journey to explore the subtle intricacies of the human experience, bringing its depth and beauty to life on paper. I always find it interesting how people react so differently to the drawings, each bringing their own experiences and feelings to their interpretations, much like a Rorschach test.
